Rules of Respect
1. Answer politely when spoken to
- When spoken to by an adult, answer in a respectable voice with, "Yes, Ma'am", "No, Ma'am", "Yes, Sir" or "No, Sir." If you do not understand something that an adult has said, the proper respond is "Ma'am?" or "Sir?", never "What?" or "Huh?"
"Give...respect to whom respect is owed." Romans 13:7
- Speak up so that the adult can hear you, and look them in the eyes.
- Eye rolling, huffing or sighing is disrespectful. Don't do it.
- Do not cross your arms over your chest or put your hands on your helps when responding to authority figures. This too is disrespectful.
2. If called; you must obey right away and come to find out why you are called.
"Be submissive to rulers and authorities; be obedient, and ready for every good work." Titus 3:1
3. Recognize those in authority over your by guarding how ou speak to them.
- Remember, you are still a child and teachers, school workers, your parents, your paster, police officers, as well as many others are adults. You should speak to them respectfully, not as you would one of your classmates or friends, and do so with proper English. Adults are your friends, but not your buddies.
- It is okay to be angry. It is okay to say that you are angry or frustrated; however,
"be angry but do not sin." Ephesians 4:26
- Once you have voiced your opinion, respect the decision of the authority figure. Do not complain, whine or argue. The decision was made with your best interests at heart.
4. If something is forbidden, you must respect this restriction. It is forgiven for your protection and benefit.
- Your tearchers, parents and other authority figures are here to protect you. We tell you not to do things, because it is for your protection and health. Be obedient.
"[Authorities] are God's servants for good." Romans 13:4
5. Do not disrespect authority by laughing or talking out loud and out of turn in order to get attention. Raise your hand and wait to be recognized before speaking.
6. Do not disrespect or impugn authority by saying bad things to others about them.
- Do not talk badly about your parents, teachers, law enforcement officers, leaders or others in authority when you are away with your friends or others. Do not try to get others to disobey the authorities or rebel.
"[W]hoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgement." Romans 13:2
7. Be truthful in all your dealings with others. Never try to tell an untruth to get yourself out of trouble or to get what your want. You must earn the trust of others, including authority figures.
"Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are His delight." Proverbs 12:22
"The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a snare of death." Proverbbs 21:6
