History & Mission

The Bessemer Classical School is a 501(c)(3) non- profit organization which opened its doors in August of 2007 to a group of seven first and second graders from families in Bessemer wanting a top-quality, Christ-centered, education for their children but who did not otherwise have the financial resources for such.  With a generous grant of building space from The First Presbyterian Church of Bessemer, the school is able to keep tuition very low while raising funds from many kind individuals to provide tuition scholarships.  In the following years, due to word of mouth, the school has more than doubled in size and has grown by two grades.  TBCS plans, Lord willing, to grow by a grade per year.

The mission of The Bessemer Classical School is to change students' lives through exceptional Christ-centered education in order to impact Bessemer and change the world for Christ.

We achieve this through:

1. Rigorous Academics - The School utilizes the classical method to train students in a liberal arts tradition, providing them with a firm foundation.  As a result, our performance on standardized testing has been impressive.

2. Christian Discipleship - The School rests upon the Word of God for teaching, training and molding fully devoted followers of Christ.

3. Leadership Development - The school trains servant-leaders to have a Biblical world and life view and who are committed to changing the world for Christ.
